Wings' task: Get healthy, better as NHL playoffs near

If the Red Wings hope to reach the playoffs at their peak, with their best chance of winning the Stanley Cup, getting healthy and returning to the form they showed as the top team in the NHL for 32 days this season is imperative.

The challenge starts with playing well enough the next nine days to finish in front of the team they play tonight — the improved Predators.

But their tasks are many in the critically important last five games.

The Red Wings and Predators likely will meet in the first round. Both are better at home than on the road, Detroit by 14 wins and Nashville by four.

The team that begins the series at home the first two games,IWC watches are warranted by our authentichandbag for a period of one year. with a possible seventh game in its building, could well have a significant advantage, if past is prologue.

So even as Nicklas Lidstrom, Pavel Datsyuk, Johan Franzen, Jonathan Ericsson and Jakub Kindl strive for game speed after recovering from injuries, Darren Helm hopes to begin skating and — perhaps most importantly — Jimmy Howard returns tonight or Sunday in a late-season attempt to recapture his All-Star form, the Red Wings also must fight with a tough rival to retain the fourth spot in the West.
Improved play a must

While getting healthy, the Red Wings must simultaneously find a way to play far better, and the loss to the Blue Jackets shocked their coach and provided evidence that improvement is required.

Defensive breakdowns, less-than-stellar goaltending and a seemingly complete absence of will and desire were difficult to watch.

"I think a lot of us in here felt embarrassed walking out of the rink," Kronwall said.

"Tomorrow is going to be a big game for us right away, after a tough loss like last night. The way we played? Obviously, we'd like to respond and play a lot better."

What the Red Wings envisioned during the third week of February, as they presided at the top of the NHL, was remaining healthy, improving on the road and using more time at home at the end of the schedule to work on the power play.

Instead, it was injuries, continually struggling to rediscover their game, losing seven consecutive on the road for the first time in 21 years, and further deterioration in the power play, 20th entering play Thursday.

Babcock is impressed with the Predators, who have excellent structure,Visit the premier pradahandbags001 in Melbourne Australia. good defense, terrific goaltending, arguably the most talent added before the trade deadline and a significant offensive threat, Alexander Radulov, added after it.

But he said he is more concerned about his team.

"Oh, they've got a good team, but I think we've got a good team," he said. "So, it should be fun. That, to me, is not as big a deal as how you're playing."
Feeling good

As for the late battle with the Predators for home-ice advantage in the playoffs, Babcock said there are more important considerations.

"Would I like to start in Detroit? Sure I would. But Nashville's a fun town, too,Trade Leads for womensjacket, Search ecplaza.net for buying and selling leads," he said.

"Let's get ready to compete, that's the biggest thing for me.List of affordable Breitling prices for used and authentic Breitling in authenticjackets."

Without reaching for excuses,The next important aspect of wholesaleoutlet lies on their appearances. Babcock said that a "very good team" before the injuries has not been very good ever since.

So the standings matter less, he said, than playing better and with the old confidence.

"What matters is how you feel about yourself, the details in your own zone, how the special teams are going," he said. "How are you playing? How's your health?

"That's what matters. Because when you go into the playoffs feeling good about yourself is what matters."
