daily life

Weather and fashion don't always go together and here in Iceland and some generations have suffered for it.

My mum has often talked about how she and her friends simply would not give up the mini skirts in the '60s, not even in the middle of winter.

They would still swagger around the icy pavements in their high-heeled leather boots, nylon pantyhose and mini skirts, often wading through snow as well.

The guys wore nylon shirts and skinny ties that had to show so they never zipped up their thin jackets. Some apparently still bear scars from the frostbites they got back then, due to too much coolness, literary.

I think the hippie influence in the '70s was great since people could wear bulky knitted sweaters, lamb-skin coats and fur boots in winter.

Then came the '80s where the garments themselves covered you up nicely,Ed Hardy Caps Buy On Sale and monclerouterwear with high quality, but were made of such thin, synthetic fabrics that people got frostbites again, despite the legwarmers.

My generation here in Iceland was extremely lucky.Welcome to Find The Bestsexylingerie. For some reason, fur-lined, hooded overalls, similar to those worn on polar expeditions, became very popular when I was about 13 and remained an ordinary outer wear till I was about 18 or 19.

We could wear whatever was in fashion underneath it and then face the Icelandic winter zipped up in this wonderful, warm invention. The only problem was that most of them looked the same so it was ease to mistake someone for your friend out in the street.

It could also prove to be difficult to find your very own overall in the cloak room at school. But they probably saved some lives.

Since then, I think Icelanders have been quite sensible dressers in winter. Either that or I'm just too grown up. But in the past few years, I think it hasn't been quite as unfashionable to dress according to weather, or cold weather, that is.

So warm, but trendy, clothing has been acceptable. Sheep-skin coats, faux-fur jackets, leather and suede garments, fur-lined boots, thick leggings and socks, bulky winter hats and warm mittens and gloves.

Icelandic wool has also become extremely popular again and upcoming designers have put it to good use. So people have had the opportunity to wear trendy Icelandic designer clothes, but remain warm at the same time.

The DIY concept also became very popular after the financial crash so now most people proudly wear home-knitted lopapeysa, scarves, stockings, hats, vests, ponchos, capes and even knitted, woolen skirts and tunics. I myself managed to knit a whole skirt.

And by Jove has it come in handy lately, with up to -10°C (14°F) over here. Have I been glad that I'm over the looking-fashionable-rather-than-being-warm phase!

In the weather we've had lately,Essential-Watches.com sells only 100% BurberryHandbags , I've been wearing: thin wool-blend leggings, another pair of thick leggings on top and my woolen skirt, a wool-blend tank top, a long-sleeved top over that, a shirt and a thick, buttoned-up sweater, thick, woolen socks, my knee-long parka, fur hat and angora gloves. Oh, and a scarf of course.

The trick is to wear layers as that's what keeps you most warm.cheappaneraiwatcheswholesale at discount prices from Timepiecetrader. It's also handy because once you're at the place you were headed for, e.g. at work, you can take some of these garments off and be comfortable indoors, as long as the central heating is good enough.

It does take you half an hour to go the bathroom, though, and for reasons unknown to me, one seems to have to pee a lot more often in such cold weather than usual.

I have mentioned to my boss that in order to improve productivity at work, he should order zipped-up fleece overalls for everybody so that bathroom visits don't take up as much time of the work day. He's thinking about it.

But joking aside, I'm glad that fashion and weather seem to go together this season; it hasn't always been the case.Welcome to Find The Best Watches Online-ralphlaurensweater.
