Weather and fashion don't always go together and here in Iceland and some generations have suffered for it.
My mum has often talked about how she and her friends simply would not give up the mini skirts in the '60s, not even in the middle of winter.
They would still swagger around the icy pavements in their high-heeled leather boots, nylon pantyhose and mini skirts, often wading through snow as well.
The guys wore nylon shirts and skinny ties that had to show so they never zipped up their thin jackets. Some apparently still bear scars from the frostbites they got back then, due to too much coolness, literary.
I think the hippie influence in the '70s was great since people could wear bulky knitted sweaters, lamb-skin coats and fur boots in winter.

Icelandic wool has also become extremely popular again and upcoming designers have put it to good use. So people have had the opportunity to wear trendy Icelandic designer clothes, but remain warm at the same time.
The DIY concept also became very popular after the financial crash so now most people proudly wear home-knitted lopapeysa, scarves, stockings, hats, vests, ponchos, capes and even knitted, woolen skirts and tunics. I myself managed to knit a whole skirt.
