The fifth of six families who need your help in this year's Brighter Christmas drive is featured in a story in the local section of today's newspaper. One more story will publish later this week.

Eight-year-old Jaquilyn Shaw was born with one kidney, which is now functioning at less than 25 percent.
Jaquilyn needs a transplant soon and in the meantime requires nine-hour dialysis treatments daily. Her cousin and legal guardian Jessica Shaw runs the dialysis machine — which sits by Jaquilyn's bed — and keeps the prescriptions updated.Find a Handbags Manufacturer and Supplier.
Jessica, 25, lives with Jaquilyn and her son, Darion Woods, 10. Both Jessica and Jaquilyn receive federal Supplemental Security Income payments, which is the only income the family receives.
"Medicare doesn't pay for all of her medicine," Jessica said. "Any medicines she needs — like for upset stomachs — aren't covered. Anything that is a medical result of her dialysis treatment isn't covered. She has to take a pill with every meal to get her phosphorus levels up. They won't do a transplant until she reaches a certain number."
The family used to travel to Memphis once a month for treatment. Now because doctors are preparing for a kidney transplant, they'll have to go two to four times a month, Jessica said. Jaquilyn will miss a lot of school, but her teachers have allowed her to do make-up work so she doesn't get behind, Jessica said.
The case name for this family is ARM 1.
The Shaw family needs: An organ donor — must have type O blood and be 18 or older. Monetary gifts to help with the rent, utility bills and medications, and gas gift cards for traveling to Memphis for Jaquilyn's treatments.
